How to Sing in the Lower Register: The Brighter Approach with an Unexpected Darker Result!

The temptation to sing lower notes with a muffled or overly dark sound gets in the way of creating beautiful notes in our speaking voice. We must think light and bright on the vowels. If we can do this whilst stretching our soft palate, then this will actually help us increase our resonance and richness of the voice!

Here is my example of this in the opening of "Maria," from Westside Story.
